Saturn in Aries, 2025–2028: the current transit

Updated · 5 min read

Saturn is in Aries in 2026. It first entered the sign on 25 May 2025, slipped back into Pisces on 1 September 2025 during its retrograde, re-entered Aries on 14 February 2026 and will stay there until about 13 April 2028, when it moves into Taurus. In astrology, Saturn in Aries is the meeting of the planet of limits with the sign of impulse, and it is traditionally considered one of Saturn's most difficult placements.

Timeline of the transit

All dates are for the tropical zodiac and are approximate to within about a day; retrograde stations are the least precise, because Saturn is nearly stationary for days around them.

What astrologers associate with Saturn in Aries

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, ruled by Mars and associated with initiative, courage, competition and self-assertion. Saturn, the planet of structure and restraint, is said to be "in fall" there: in the traditional scheme of dignities, it is the sign where Saturn's qualities work least comfortably, opposite Libra, where Saturn is exalted (see Saturn in astrology).

Astrologers therefore describe the transit as a period in which impulsive action meets consequences, and in which independence must be backed by discipline to last. Typical themes in astrological writing on Saturn in Aries include:

  • Leadership tested. Authority based on force or charisma alone is said to be challenged, while leadership that takes responsibility is said to hold.
  • Learning patience. The sign of fast starts is paired with the planet of slow results: projects begun in haste would stall, while those built step by step would endure.
  • Self-reliance. On a personal level, the transit is read as a demand to stand on one's own feet and define one's identity without leaning on others' approval.

Astrologers pay special attention to people whose charts have planets in early-to-late Aries and in the signs that form hard angles to it (Libra by opposition, Cancer and Capricorn by square). For those born with Saturn in Aries, between roughly 1996 and early 1999, the transit is their first Saturn return; for those born in 1967–1969, the second.

The interpretation of a transit is a symbolic reading, not a forecast: astrology has no scientific support, and the statements above describe what astrologers say, not what will happen.

The Saturn–Neptune conjunction of 2026

A rarer event coincided with Saturn's return to Aries: on about 20 February 2026, Saturn passed Neptune at roughly 0°45' Aries. Saturn and Neptune line up in the sky about every 36 years; the previous conjunction occurred in 1989 in Capricorn. Because both planets had just crossed the start of the zodiac, astrologers widely presented the 2026 conjunction as the opening of a new long cycle. Astronomically, the alignment was not observable in any practical sense: it occurred a few weeks before Saturn's conjunction with the Sun, low in the evening twilight, and Neptune is too faint to see without a telescope.

Saturn in Aries in the real sky

The tropical zodiac used by Western astrologers has drifted about 24° from the constellations, because of the precession of Earth's axis. As a result, during the whole "Saturn in Aries" period of 2026–2027, the planet actually shines in front of the stars of the constellation Pisces, briefly crossing into neighboring Cetus around the October 2026 opposition. Saturn only reaches the constellation Aries in 2028, when astrologers already place it in Taurus.

For observers, the transit years are a good time to watch Saturn. The planet reaches opposition on 4 October 2026 and 18 October 2027, rising at sunset and shining at about magnitude 0.1 to 0.3, among the brighter points in that part of the sky. Its rings, seen edge-on in March 2025 (see disappearing rings), are slowly opening again. Practical advice on finding it is on the page how to see Saturn, and dates for the following years are on the opposition dates page.

FAQ

When does Saturn enter Aries?

Saturn first entered Aries on 25 May 2025, went back into Pisces on 1 September 2025 during its retrograde motion, and re-entered Aries for good on 14 February 2026.

How long is Saturn in Aries?

Counting from the definitive re-entry, about 26 months, from 14 February 2026 to about 13 April 2028. Including the 2025 visit, the whole episode spans nearly three years.

When was Saturn last in Aries?

Saturn was last in Aries from April 1996 to March 1999, with a short dip into Taurus in mid-1998; before that in 1967–1969, and before that in 1937–1940.

Is Saturn in the constellation Aries in 2026?

No. Because of precession, the zodiac sign Aries now corresponds mostly to the constellation Pisces, which is where Saturn is seen in 2026 and 2027. It enters the constellation Aries in 2028.
